Day 4-Tangalooma

Well you realise just how quickly the year is going when you are half way through February and you are still catching up on your December/January holiday blogging-anyway here goes day 4 with Thommo and Eve when we all headed out to Moreton Island for the day at Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort for some diving and whatever came about.

It was a good hour on the ferry out of Brisbane during which time I think we all caught some shut eye after the night before again though once on the Island we were full steam ahead and after a cup of coffee Thommo, Sar's and I were straight onto the Quad bikes for an hour through the dunes. It was quite amazing as we were leaving the beach on our bike there were 2 or 3 dolphins not 2 meters from the shore with people standing in the water looking at them-needless to say this just increased the excitement for when we would dive the wrecks in the picture above. The quad biking was awesome though there were a few close calls and anxious moments thanks to out guide who obviously was no whiz on the health and safety side of things choosing to stop dead on a blind corner!!!
Once done biking we thought it a good idea for the 4 of us to be towed behind a boat on an inflatable banana with some interesting results-needless to say the most memorable thing about the banana was Eve's yelping every time we hit the wake or wave and lurched skyward, at first we thought eve was trying to communicate with the dolphins she had seen earlier in the day with her HE HE HEE calling. By the time we finished the ride we were sopping wet having all fallen off and completely buggered from hanging on for dear life, oh yes Eve's voice was also a little husky from the yelping.
The afternoon we hired some diving gear and took a long walk down the beach to the wrecks, these are located about 50m offshore though with a fair rip inshore between the beach and the wrecks. Once out there we had gloves so could hang off the ships so as to not be swept away-sounds dramatic though not really. It was amazing around the wrecks with the amount of sea life and coral that has established itself on the boats-it was like looking into an aquarium window though you didn't know what was going to be in the bow of the next ship or come up from the deep.
It really was a superb day and would really recommend it to anyone coming into Brisbane who doesn't have time to get up to the real reef. Needless to say we were buggered by the end of it all though not to tired to watch South Africa crush Pakistan over 6 or 7 beers AGAIN.

I think tangalooma is a great venue for families. There are so many safe activities for all ages. I think that this tangalooma website was helpful with information about the activities and how to really enjoy and plan your holiday.
